I’m Bringing Code Katas Back Into My Routine
When I sit down to work, either on my game or a new client feature, I don’t always arrive with a clear head. Some days I’m thinking about the kids, finances, architectural decisions, or the (unfinished) feature I was working on yesterday.
Creative work demands presence, but life rarely hands us that on a silver platter.
So I'm adding a small warm-up ritual back into my routine: Code Katas.
A small, focused exercise helps me transition into the work more smoothly.
It clears the noise.
It lets me start by writing clean and intentional code, even if it’s just for a few minutes, and that tone carries into the rest of the session.
There’s a lot already said about katas: whether they build mastery, whether repetition matters, whether they’re “worth it.”
For me, it’s not about mastery at all.
It’s simply about making it easier to begin.
And most of the battle is in the beginning.
Catch you in the next log!
