Focus in Small Bites

Lately I’ve been experimenting with a simple productivity system to stay focused while working on Cybernetks projects: the Pomodoro Technique.
It’s nothing new but applying it consistently is making a real difference.

In short, it’s a structured way of working in small, focused blocks:
⏱️ 25 minutes of deep focus
☕ 5 minutes of rest or reset
💤 15–30 minutes of longer rest after 4 cycles

Repeat that a few times, and you’d be surprised how much focused work you actually get done. The key isn’t working longer but deliberately.

During those 25 minutes, I block out distractions completely. No emails, no Slack, no “quick scroll.” Then in the 5-minute break, I either get up and move (since I sit all day), or check messages guilt-free.

To keep it simple, I’ve been using an app called Onigiri.
It’s a clean, minimal timer with three customizable presets — perfect for 25/5, 45/15, or even longer sessions if needed. One caveat: while it’s listed as “free,” it actually allows only five sessions before requiring a one-time purchase. Still, for me, it’s worth it for the minimal design and zero clutter.

This small change has made my daily sessions sharper.
Instead of sitting behind the screen for hours and drifting, I now commit to the next 25 minutes and nothing else.

Focus doesn’t come from motivation.
It comes from design, and a good timer helps.
